Rule Discovery Participants’ final hypotheses were coded as correct or incorrect using Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite (Google API).111The pre-registration specified coding would be done using Anthropic’s Claude Haiku 4.5. We decided to use Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite instead because it was available through our institution’s sandbox and cheaper to deploy at scale. A hypothesis was coded as correct if it specified “even numbers” (or equivalent) as the only requirement.
