When insulation degrades, the helium heats, converts to gas, and leaks away, typically needing transportation within 45 days of liquefaction. Richard Brook, chief executive of helium advisory Garrison Ventures, informed the New York Times that chip manufacturers can stockpile roughly six weeks of supply. About 200 specialized containers are reportedly immobilized near the Strait of Hormuz.
